After Selling Out in Minutes During Its Debut, the Tacolate Is Back for Good and Fans Can Score Free Taco Bell Tacos in Venice
Salt & Straw’s wildly popular collaboration with Taco Bell is back, and this time, it’s here to stay. The ice cream maker announced that The Tacolate, its viral frozen dessert taco that sold out within minutes during its launch weekend, will now be a permanent item at all Salt & Straw locations and available for nationwide shipping through saltandstraw.com.
To celebrate its return, Taco Bell will host a late-night pop-up outside Salt & Straw’s Abbot Kinney shop on Friday, October 24, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Guests who purchase a Tacolate in-store can present their receipt at the Taco Bell Truck to receive a complimentary taco of their choice, from a classic crunchy taco to a Doritos Locos, while supplies last.
The collaboration marks a full-circle moment for Salt & Straw co-founder and chef Tyler Malek, who first experimented with ice cream tacos nearly a decade ago at his Portland soft-serve concept, Wiz Bang Bar. Those early versions would sell out daily, paving the way for this high-profile partnership with Taco Bell.
Each Tacolate features a hand-pressed waffle shell filled with cinnamon ancho chili ice cream, dipped in single-origin chocolate, and sprinkled with toasted quinoa for extra crunch. The tacos come with two exclusive Taco Bell–inspired sauces: Mango Jalapeño and Wildberry Cinnamon.
Malek said his team has been working tirelessly for months to scale production while maintaining the handmade quality and inventive flavor profiles that made Salt & Straw a national phenomenon.
